2020 President’s Message

Stephen Mostella, CPCU

It is with great honor that I greet you on behalf of the North Florida CPCU Society Chapter.  Welcome to 2020:  a new year and a new decade full of opportunities for success.

The North Florida CPCU chapter is celebrating 66 years of helping its members achieve their career and educational goals.   Our primary objective in 2020 is to continue this reputation by growing our membership and equipping you, our members, with activities and resources to enhance your understanding of emerging industry trends and overcome future challenges facing the insurance industry.  Your chapter's officers are energized and committed to meeting and exceeding your expectations in 2020.  But first, let's reflect on 2019, where each month we welcomed several new members and designees.

Based on your feedback, the chapter had insightful, passionate and knowledgeable guest presenters at all the monthly meetings.  The speakers covered several relevant and important topics last year including:  How to Build Your Personal Brand, The Impact of Rising Sea Levels in North Florida, Insurance and Medical Marijuana, Technology and Insurance (Block Chain, Drones & Big Data) and Active Shooter and  Ransom Insurance (CE Credit).   The highlight of the year was our meeting in Tallahassee with Florida Insurance Commissioner David Altmaier where guests heard his perspective on the current state of the P & C market.   Joining us for this meeting were faculty and students from Florida State University’s Risk Management/Insurance department.

Another major accomplishment for the chapter was being designated “Platinum” status, the highest level possible, by the CPCU Society for our prior achievements.  All the above would not have happened without the commitment and leadership of past officers, committee chairs, and volunteers.   “Thanks” to each of these individuals for generously dedicating countless hours to promote the North Florida chapter.

2020’s calendar is full of great & fun events including an excellent array of guest speakers, meetings with CE credits and networking events. The April and May meetings are focused on the uniqueness of the Florida Property Insurance market.
